MineViewer becomes SMP compatible :D

MineViewer has been updated to support new blocks in Minecraft beta, sorry about the delay, I was working on getting MineViewer to connect to SMP servers (Don’t worry server admins, read further down), which I wanted to come with this update, unfortunately it is not complete and is buggy, so use it with caution, transparency is another new feature which has been implented.

For server admins who are concerned and do not want MineViewer to connect to their server, add “-nc” to the very start of your motd and MineViewer will refuse to connect.

Picture time :D

(Ill get more screen shots when minecraft.net comes back up)

Oh, just make sure you click the little “^” button on the chat form and select force map download, this will move the player around slightly so the server sends us those precious chunks (just make sure you unload the chunks and reload them).

EDIT: Updated MineViewer to connect with the new launcher.
EDIT 2: Is he doing this on purpose? Fixed auth again.

when i try to use “force map download(move player) for SMP,” i get this message about a hundred times:

“unable to write data to the transport connection: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.”

also it randomly disconnects me about 1 minute after it logs me in.

    • C0BRA says:

Thanks for reporting this, can you re-download and tell me if that is any better, apparently it is because of .NET sockets keep alive packet that causes the problem.

      • Lulanf says:

I just downloaded this and am getting the same “Unable to write data to the transport connection: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine” message.

  2. NINJ4 says:

This is outstandingly stupid, any number of people have already released similar “cheat” clients with allowing server admins to blacklist against it have eventually realized that it is much nicer and fairer to server admins to make their clients WHITELIST only. I shouldn’t have to put something in my motd just to protect myself against your users.

  3. Dweller_Benthos says:

Nice update. Having a problem with cave view & miners view though. They don’t “turn off” rock so you can see under ground, you just get a solid block. You can move inside the block and see tunnels, but you used to be able to see into the ground from the outside. Hope I’m explaining that right. Before, you could slice down until the ground was essentially hollow but now, no matter how far you slice, it’s still a solid block.

  4. Jared says:

What is supposed to happen when you try to map an MP server? For me, it’s just sitting there. Does it just take a while to load?

    • C0BRA says:

You have to manualy load and unload the chunks, in future I could do some automatic loading but it is not necessarily required.

      • Jared says:

Sorry for so many questions, but how does one go about this manually loading and unloading chunks?

I just ran the mod on a single player map, it’s awesome! I love just being able to look for the diamonds and get to them, it saves me time when I just want to build and not worry about tools.

        • C0BRA says:

You hold Q and click the blue square, then release Q, and click where the blue square was, you might need to look around a bit for where your player currently is, as the chunk that is loaded is the one at spawn, there are still a few bugs with the connection being dropped too, can’t seem to figgure out why it occurs.

  5. Stefan says:

I’m having trouble with connecting to SMP. I get ‘Authecation: Bad login’ every time I try. I double checked that the normal client works (ie I’m properly connected to the internet, and I haven’t forgotten my username & password).

  6. Zarkiel says:

Can you make this compatible with private MC servers? I tried to connect to one with no results (couldnt connect to minecraft)

  7. cliff says:

Doesn’t appear to work for me, I sat there for half an hour loading and unloading chunks and all I got was blue. Also, after using the app, I couldn’t connect to the server for a while via Minecraft, you should check whether or not the connection is closed properly.

    • MikeXIV says:

I experienced the same sort of behavior when I connected to an SMP server – I could try to load blocks, but they never appeared. Doing so also crashed the server. The server admin (buddy of mine) said that the server had been asked for lighting information for something like a 60×300 chunk area. Maybe the app is over-requesting information?

    • WJimbo says:

Same problem, awesome tool for singleplayer, but multiplayer’s not working at all for me.

  8. Ddrl46 says:

Make sure you press , to see anything because for some reason it starts at the lowest slicing thing for me.

  9. AlCanDrive says:

Yeah, the 22nd Febuary update broke the program for me, only seeing blue and green squares. Must be the new save format causing the issue, Hope this is fixed soon, this tool is extremely handy.

  10. Jaffacakelover says:

Is MineViewer Windows only? Minepedia says it’s Windows, Mac & Linux, but I can only find a Windows download.

    • Jaffacakelover says:

Aha! Through the amazing power of reading, i’ve learned there’s a .net-like protocol for Mac & Linux called Mono. Perhaps this is what they’re on about.

  11. Help says:

For me it does not work.
    All i see is blue.
Even when i click it to the land .
Please help because i really need help findinf iron ore and it looks really cool.

    • Program broken says:

      Hello to all!

This program does not work anymore since a minecraft update in late February 2011 changing the savegame format. No reaction of the author since that. Perhaps this program is abandoned?! Without a update it never would work again. Neither PC or MAC, because it can not read the savefile anymore.

      Sorry. Loved it too.

      • Wozzie says:

Hmmm still no fix…Please let us know if this is abandonware, or you’re still hard at it reading/decoding the new save format. :)

        • C0BRA says:

No, there is a fix thanks to a very nice guy ;) expect an update within the next few days.

          • Matt says:

            Hi,

I love the video for this program and I’m really hoping it could be fixed to work with McRegion. Is that still in the cards? I’m currently using Minutor, some of their features were disabled by the new update, but in general it is far inferior to this majesty. I hope to be able to use it soon!

          • C0BRA says:

It has support for McRegion levels.
